Development Of Acute RfC Methodology; Considerations In Procedures Relating To Dosimetry Under Chronic Versus Acute Exposure Scenarios

On this page:

  • Overview
The project considers and examines in detail relationships between critical variables such as exposure time to steady-state as well as physiological determinants related to exposure to predict the nature of the dosimetric adjustment. Overall, this project advances the science that may be utilized in making estimates of safe exposures under acute conditions, i.e., short durations and relatively high concentrations, primarily under inhalation exposure scenarios.

Impact/Purpose

This project addresses specific comments from SAB and RAF reviews of the Agency's current draft of the Less-than-Lifetime Exposure-Response (EPA 600/R-05/112a), namely that the recommended procedures in that document for interspecies dosimetric adjustment be in harmony with parallel procedures in the existing version of the chronic methodology (U.S. EPA, 1994).
