Analysis of weather patterns associated with air quality degradation and potential health impacts

On this page:

  • Overview
Emissions from anthropogenic and natural sources into the atmosphere are determined in large measure by prevailing weather conditions through complex physical, dynamical and chemical processes. Air pollution episodes are characterized by degradation in air quality as reflected by the increase of ambient concentrations of specific pollutants, such as ozone and particulate matter.

Impact/Purpose

To use and present results of a weather classification analysis in terms of eight airmass patterns to identify the regional characteristics of weather in terms of their relation to air pollution and consequent health impacts.
