Volatile Chemical Exposure Comparison for In-Vitro and In-Vivo Benchmark Concentration Analysis

On this page:

  • Overview
Overview: Challenges: Challenges for timely testing analysis of volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) Determining the optimized assays and analysis for data comparable to traditional in-vitro chemical testing Increasing regulatory interest in supplementing and replacing in-vivo testing strategies Pilot Study: Novel in-vitro inhalation exposure system overview and experimental design Benchmark dose analysis and comparison to existing in-vivo data in the literature Knowledge Gaps: New and necessary avenues of study Needed expertise and efforts

Impact/Purpose

PURPOSE: Accelerating the Pace of Chemical Risk Assessment (APCRA) is an intergovernmental collaborative effort comprised of key international regulatory agencies and their science support colleagues to discuss the development and implementation of new approach methodologies (NAMs) to prioritization, screening, and quantitative risk assessments of differing levels of complexity. Given the current restrictions on travel and large gatherings for many of our partners, APCRA-5 will not be held face-to-face but will be held as a virtual meeting. As in past face-to-face meetings, this meeting will be restricted to governmental partners and their scientific support staff in order to allow for frank and open discussions on the progress and barriers in the use of NAMs in our regulatory decisions. Past workshops have focused on data gaps and research needs for assessment of human health toxicity, ecotoxicity, and exposure NAMs. The fifth annual workshop will focus on the ongoing APCRA case studies and proposals for new case studies. Each day will end with some time to discuss the overall scope of APCRA case studies and what data gaps may still remain to be addressed by APCRA.
