Nitrogen release is a whack-a-mole problem: Using systems approaches to address it

On this page:

  • Overview
Learn about EPA ORD’s latest research on inputs, budgets and consequences of nitrogen (and phosphorus) release for water quality. Using examples of nutrient budgets at the national, regional and local scale, Jana Compton from EPA’s Pacific Ecological Systems Division in Corvallis will walk through examples about nutrient impacts using data from the National Aquatic Resources Survey, the Safe Drinking Water Information System, the Cyanobacterial Assessment Network, the EnviroAtlas and the National Nutrient Input Inventory to understand the impacts and implications of land use and watershed processes on water quality and environmental damage costs nationally and within the Pacific Northwest.

Impact/Purpose

Jana Compton was invited by Region 10's Rob Elleman the Regional Science Liason, and Rochelle Labiosa, the Nutrient and HABs coordinator for Region 10 to present at their Scientific/Technical Speaker Series.
