The Role of U.S. EPA's Office of Research and Development in Water Resources Assessment and Management

This is a virtual presentation to a class at University of Wisconsin-Madison entitled "Applied Science of Watershed and Water Resources Managment". No abstract was required.

Impact/Purpose

The purpose of this presentation is to provide university-level students with a basic understanding of the role of research in EPA and the types of careers available. I provide a general overview of ORD and how it fits into EPA. I follow this with a focus on water-related research, as watershed and water resource managment is the topic of the course in which it will be presented. I explain the general process for developing research in EPA. I then provide an overview of my career over 20 years, covering the wide range of research in which I have participated, and the types of collaborations I have been able to have. The intention is to expose students to the opportunities for research at EPA. Students will come away with an understanding of how research fits into the way EPA works and how they might be a part of that research.
