Tribal Engagement on Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) Assessment Scoping

On this page:

  • Overview

Early engagement with tribal groups encourages and facilitates clear communication between EPA staff and tribes on tribal concerns and interests related to chemicals being evaluated by IRIS assessments. This presentation will provide context for the National Tribal Toxics Council on HERA and IRIS, IRIS Assessment Plans and Protocols, and potential future engagements.

Impact/Purpose

Early engagement with the National Tribal Toxics Council encourages and facilitates clear communication between EPA staff and tribes on tribal concerns and interests related to chemicals being evaluated by IRIS assessments. By understanding at the earliest stages that an IRIS assessment is being developed to inform specific EPA decisions, tribes will have input during development of toxicity assessments and then will be well-situated to engage with EPA programs or regions during the subsequent decisional and/or rulemaking actions.
