Confronting the ghosts of nutrients past, present, and future in water quality management

On this page:

  • Overview
This presentation will review the latest research on inputs, budgets, effects and management related to non-point source nutrient pollution at the EPA’s Office of Research and Development.  Using examples of nutrient budgets at the national, regional and local scale, Jana Compton from EPA’s Pacific Ecological Systems Division in Corvallis will walk through examples about nutrient impacts using data from EPA information, including the National Aquatic Resources Survey and the National Nutrient Input Inventory to understand the impacts and implications of land use and watershed processes on water quality across the US.   Case examples of development and applications of watershed nutrient budgets from local projects will be shared.

Impact/Purpose

Jana Compton from EPA’s Pacific Ecological Systems Division in Corvallis was invited to present at the California Agricultural Partnership Forum (CAPF).  Jana will walk through examples about nutrient impacts using data from EPA information, including the National Aquatic Resources Survey and the National Nutrient Input Inventory to understand the impacts and implications of land use and watershed processes on water quality across the US.
