Scaling up and out as a biogeochemist: Navigating from nutrient sources to solutions

On this page:

  • Overview
This presentation will provide an overview of the latest research on inputs, budgets, effects, and management related to nutrient pollution.  Using examples of nitrogen and phosphorus budgets at the national, regional and local scales, Jana Compton from EPA’s Pacific Ecological Systems Division in Corvallis will walk through examples using EPA’s National Aquatic Resources Survey and National Nutrient Inventory to understand the impacts of land use and watershed processes on stream and lake nutrients across the US.  Jana will also describe her career path and share links to ORISE opportunities for recent graduates.

Impact/Purpose

Jana Compton was invited by a graduate student from North Carolina State University to give a virtual presentation for other graduate students, to share a bit about her career path and research, as well as talk about the ORISE program in general.  Jana will be joined in person by Ashley Gaines who will provide information for students about EPA job opportunities and answer 1:1 student questions.
