Recommendations on CLs: 2024 Fall NADP Meeting

On this page:

  • Overview
This is a technical presentation to a working group at the Fall Meeting for the National Atmospheric Deposition Program.  Here I'll give an overview of the critical loads (CLs) currently available for trees and herbs in the National Critical Loads Database, and recommendations from the technical group on which to use and for which purposes.  We review three sources (Clark et al. 2019, Wilkins et al. 2022, and McDonnell et al. 2018, 2020, 2022) and provide initial recommendations for discussion.

Impact/Purpose

Critical loads are a research tool to assess how much air pollution ecosystems can tolerate before negative effects begin to occur. This presentation will begin the process for updating the National Critical Loads Database which decision makers in the USFS, EPA, and NPS use to inform decision making.
