StreamCat and LakeCat Data and Tools

On this page:

  • Overview
This poster was requested by Kate Schofield of ORD-CPHEA-HEEAD-IEAB. Kate organized a National Water Quality Monitoring Conference panel session titled "Strength in numbers: integrating efforts to use biological monitoring, stressor-response, and other data to improve aquatic assessments" and requested a submission discussing StreamCat and LakeCat. The poster discusses what StreamCat and LakeCat are, how they are accessible, and why they are useful to state and tribal partners.

Impact/Purpose

Deriving watershed information for streams and lakes still requires, in many cases, specialized expertise. StreamCat and LakeCat greatly simplify the process of accessing such data for 2.6 million stream segments and nearly 400,000 lakes across the U.S. This poster presentation provides a basic introduction to these data, how to access them, and examples of how they can be used by state and tribal partners.
