Dataset of title/abstract screening tags for nature-based solutions and health literature

This dataset was generated from a broad literature search of studies linking urban nature-based solutions (NbS) to human health outcomes. A forward citation search was implemented by gathering a “seed set” of peer-reviewed papers representing different NbS, health, social, and geographic endpoints with a literature cut-off date of 2000. The seed set papers were then input into the living literature review (LLR) tool to search across the PubMed and Web of Science databases and gather peer-reviewed literature that cited one or more of the seed set papers. Paper titles and abstracts were then screened in LLR. During title and abstract screening, paper attributes were tracked in a custom-made form that noted characteristics to be tagged such as: type of study, geographic location of study, NbS type, NbS measurement, health endpoint (mental and/or physical, with additional options below each category), etc. This dataset includes citation information and tags for included papers. It can be used to understand patterns of topics in the literature and to identify potential gaps.

Impact/Purpose

This work contributes to the understanding of urban nature-based solutions and their potential impacts on human health. The dataset is a set of 1880 citations and topical tags assigned to them based on an expert reading of their titles and abstracts. This dataset could be important to program offices, city planners, and community groups as they seek to gather evidence or fill gaps on the physical and mental health effects of a variety of nature-based solutions.
