Supporting Coastal Community Resilience through Natural Infrastructure
Per Crisfield's request, this presentation is a research status briefing summarizing nature-based solutions recommendations for the Crisfield Standing Coordination Call. The goal is to describe research to date identifying nature-based solutions for coastal resilience identifying strategies and specific on-the-ground projects to help Crisfield attenuation storm surge and waves and prevent erosion. Results summarize potentially effective strategies appropriate for Crisfield's environmental conditions developed from a literature review and preliminary analysis of options successful at providing coastal resilience in areas with similar characteristics to Crisfield, as well as assessing co-benefits in alignment with Crisfield's values and preferences. Meeting attendees will integrate EPA ORD's NBS research with other ongoing efforts on the part of FEMA, US Army Corps, and other state and local efforts to help Crisfield work towards achieving their overall resilience goals.
