EPA has finalized the Toxicological Review of 1,1,2,2-Tetrachloroethane: in support of the Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS). Now final, this assessment may be used by EPA’s program and regional offices to inform decisions to protect human health.
The Toxicological Review of 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane provides scientific support and rationale for the hazard and dose-response assessment pertaining to subchronic and chronic exposure to 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane. 1,1,2,2 Tetrachloroethane (1,1,2,2TCE; CASRN 79-34-5) is a synthetic halogenated hydrocarbon that is a colorless, nonflammable liquid at room temperature. The major use for 1,1,2,2 tetrachloroethane was in the production of trichloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene, and 1,2-dichloroethylene. This assessment contains the derivation of both a subchronic and chronic reference dose and an oral cancer slope factor. EPA is also putting forth for external review the statement that the human carcinogenic potential of 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane is “likely to be carcinogenic to humans”.

Impact/Purpose

1,1,2,2 Tetrachloroethane is a synthetic halogenated hydrocarbon that is a colorless, nonflammable liquid at room temperature.
