Abstract
On September 24, 2009, the Toxicological Review of cis- and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene and the charge to external peer reviewers were released for external peer review and public comment. The Toxicological Review and charge were reviewed internally by EPA and by other federal agencies and White House Offices before public release. In the new IRIS process, introduced by the EPA Administrator, all written comments on IRIS assessments submitted by other federal agencies and White House Offices will be made publicly available. Accordingly, interagency comments and the interagency science consultation drafts of the cis- and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene IRIS Toxicological Review and charge to external peer reviewers are posted on this site. The draft Toxicological Review of cis- and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene provides scientific support and rationale for the hazard identification and dose-response assessment pertaining to chronic exposure to cis- and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene. 1,2-Dichloroethylene is used as a solvent for waxes and resins, in rubber extraction, and as a coolant in refrigeration plants. The cis- and trans- isomers have slightly different physical, chemical, and biological properties. The trans-isomer is more widely used. 1,2-Dichloroethylene is frequently detected at federal and state hazardous waste sites across the country.
Impact/Purpose
The draft Toxicological Review of cis- and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene provides scientific support and rationale for the hazard identification and dose-response assessment pertaining to chronic exposure to cis- and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene.Status
Following external peer review of the Toxicological Review of 1,2-dichloroethylene, the assessment will be revised, to respond to external peer review and public comments, will undergo a final EPA internal review and a review by and science discussion with other federal agencies and White House offices, and will be posted to the IRIS database.Citation
