On Being an Effective Statistical Consultant

On this page:

  • Overview
This presentation, given to the Oregon State University Statistics Department Consulting Practicum, focused on helpful pieces of advice for statistical consultants, but more generally, being a statistician on an interdisciplinary scientific team.

Impact/Purpose

Nearly all scientific projects contain statistical components. As a statistician, it is important that I have technical expertise and that I am able to communicate effectively with other scientists. I was fortunate enough to be asked by the Oregon State University Statistics Department to speak out the role of a statistician working with other scientists. This presentation covers advice that I have gained over the years as a statistical analyst working on interdisciplinary teams. Preparing for this talk gave me the chance to review my own journey and focus on effectively communicating tips about communication!
