Wildfire Smoke and Health.
This is a comprehensive 10-15 minute presentation on what is known about health effects associated with exposure to wildfire smoke. It does an excellent job of explaining the latest research to a public health audience who have responsibilities in helping prepare communities and health systems for smoke episodes. The more informed they can be, as the presentation makes the audience aware of additional resources they can tap, the greater impact they can have in protecting public health.
Impact/Purpose
The purpose of the presentation is to provide a broad overview of the health impacts of wildfire smoke, with emphasis on the susceptible populations. The talk will also describe the resources available on the EPA website, including the Wildfire Smoke: Guide for Public Health Officials, AirNow, factsheets, and continuing education courses. The audience for the presentation is state and local public health officials who are on the frontlines of conveying health advice to the public during wildfire smoke events.Citation
