EMGS Bioinformatics Challenge 2020 - Be a Part of the Largest Computational Genetic Toxicology Event of the Year-Poster

On this page:

  • Overview
We are announcing the EMGS Bioinformatics Challenge 2020. The aim of this competition is to encourage participants to develop novel tools and approaches that harness publicly available data to identify signatures of genotoxic hazards or provide insight into their mechanisms of action. The Challenge formally begins at the 2019 EMGS meeting and culminates at the 2020 EMGS meeting in Palm Springs, California. The informational poster provides a general overview of the event as well as instructions and example outputs for those considering participating. For the Challenge, multiple datasets will be made available including selected data from the EPA/NTP/FDA/ToxCast/Tox21 initiatives. Interested parties will assemble their teams and submit a proposal for review. Accepted proposals will receive initial award and the awarded groups will spend the year developing their products. Outputs can be as simple as data visualizations that identify and display interesting patterns in “big data” or as complex as deep learning predictive models integrating multiple omics data types. At the 2020 meeting, a poster competition will be held where groups will present their work. Winners will receive travel award to support attendance at a computational or genetic toxicology-related meeting. Participation by EMGS members and non-members is encouraged and will be sought via communication with other related societies. In addition to generating new insight and methods in genetic toxicology, we hope that this event will foster productive interactions between EMGS members with expertise in genetic toxicity and colleagues that are versed in data science, thereby educating the community on the utility of novel computational approaches. Impact/Purpose

This poster announces national Bioinformatics Challenge 2020 organized by the Environmental Mutagenesis and Genomics Society (EMGS). It provides information on how to join this challenge and presents examples of available datasets and solicited scientific outputs. The poster may be of interest to computational toxicologists, bioinformaticians, and data scientists who may consider participating.
