An overview of CADDIS and ongoing systematic reviews of nutrient stressor-response relationships
On this page:
CADDIS stands for the Causal Analysis/Diagnosis Decision Information System. It’s a website that helps users conduct causal assessments of stream biological impairment (e.g., it helps figure out what’s causing bugs or fish in streams to be negatively affected). The CADDIS website is www.epa.gov/caddis. The systematic reviews focused on how two main nutrient forms, total nitrogen and phosphorus affect three commonly measured biological endpoints in streams: (1) chlorophyll-a, which is a plant pigment commonly used to measure algal biomass; (2) diatoms, which are a large group of primary producers; and (3) macroinvertebrates such as insects and other invertebrates with a focus on river and stream habitats.
