ISSUES IN MOVING FROM ADAPTATION SCIENCE TO APPLICATION AND DECISION MAKING

On this page:

  • Overview
This presentation lays out issues and themes that are to be covered and discussed by the speakers of Special Session 22: What do managers/regulators need to know from science to support protection/restoration/adaptation decisions? There is uncertainty in future environmental conditions, so risks of extreme weather events must be considered in management decisions to ensure: • Viability of individual restoration/management projects. • The longer-term achievement of overall management objectives. Linking vulnerability and adaptation assessment forces the information of each component to be internally consistent (i.e., related to each other in terms of content and scale).

Impact/Purpose

This is the opening presentation for an EPA-led special session at the Society for Freshwater Science, May 19-23, 2019 in Salt Lake City. The session is, "S22: What do managers/regulators need to know from science to support protection/restoration/adaptation decisions? " The overall goal of the presentation is long-term effectiveness of management strategies and actions due to environmental change.
