ORD Research Implementation in the Center for Public Heath & Environmental Assessment
CPHEA research contributing to the HERA Program is spread over 2 Divisions: Chemical and Pollutant Assessment Division (CPAD) and Health and Environmental Effects Assessment Division (HEEAD). These two divisions primarily develop scientific assessments on the effects of chemicals and nonchemical stressors on human health and the environment and provide scientific technical support to inform EPA Region and Program Offices. Through experience gained in conducting fit-for-purpose, robust, scientific assessments to determine how pollutants or other stressors may impact human health and the environment, CPHEA’s CPAD and HEEAD also conduct cutting-edge research to develop innovative risk assessment science and approaches. For example, Developing methods such as systematic review that facilitate careful evaluation of scientific evidence, building and advancing tools such as benchmark dose modeling software, constructing models such as the All-Ages Lead Model, and applying information technologies through the Health and Environmental Research Online (HERO) system to make the world’s literature available to risk assessors and the public.
Impact/Purpose
CPHEA has unique abilities in ORD to address HERA RA 3 - Emerging and Innovative Assessment Methodologies and RA 4 - Essential Assessment and Infrastructure Tools, which are the topics under review today.Citation
