Wildfire Research: Understanding Health Impacts and Potential Mitigations
This presentation describes the Air and Energy Program's research on exposure, health effects, and mitigation approaches related to wildland fire smoke.
Impact/Purpose
Wildland fires (WLF) are a persistent and pervasive multimedia issue increasing in prominence in the US. They affect air quality in, around and downwind of the locations of fires. Our changing environment has increased the likelihood and severity of wildfires. Research activities and synthesis of results in the Office of Research and Development's Air and Energy Program improved understanding of WLF impacts on public health and the environment and will inform approaches to reduce exposures and risks associated with WLF.Citation
