Exposure Measurement and Systematic Review of Environmental Epidemiology Studies

On this page:

  • Overview
This presentation describes criteria for evaluating exposure measurements in epidemiology studies of methylmerucury neurodevelopmental toxicity. We assigned exposure measurements a rating of good, adequate, deficient or critically deficient based on based on the analytical methods used to measure exposure and quantitative metrics of method performance, which were reported in the published findings of the studies or requested from corresponding authors.

Impact/Purpose

Exposure science expertise plays an important role in the evaluation of epidemiology studies for a systematic review. However approaches for incorporating exposure sciences into systematic review process has not been well described or established. This presentation illustrates one approach for incorporating exposure sciences into the systematic review process using evaluation of human studies of methylmercury neurodevelopmental toxicity  as an example.
