Presentation to AE clients and regional partners on watershed resilience and identification of refugia

Impact/Purpose

Many freshwater fish species are adapted to dealing with variable environmental conditions and utilize various strategies to accommodate change.  But when the rate or severity of change exceeds what fish populations can handle, fish population losses can occur.  Climate change, with associated shifts in the nature, timing and severity of flooding, drought, temperatures, wildfires, and water quality can pose additional challenges to freshwater fish populations already impacted by human land and water use. This presentation will explore recent research to understand how and where fish populations might be able to cope with future environmental change.  These findings can help inform water and watershed management to foster future resilience in freshwater ecosystems.
