Thyroid Disrupting Chemicals and the Developing Brain
On this page:
Slide Presentation
What are Consequences of Modest TH Disruption? Neurological Deficits Reported: •Maternal hypothyroxinemia/subclinical hypothyroidism •Inadequate /delayed treatment of congenital hypothyroidism •Epidemiological studies of xenobiotic exposures.
At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant should:
1. Recognize that thyroid hormones are critical for brain development and many chemicals have the potential to interfere with the thyroid system. 2. Understand the limitations of current regulatory approaches evaluating environmental thyroid system disrupting chemicals 3. Identify progress in the development of outputs/endpoints in animal models that are sufficiently sensitive and robust to detect developmental neurotoxicity of thyroid disrupting chemicals.
