Nutrients and Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs): Responding to State and Regional Needs (Region 5)

On this page:

  • Overview
Update on SSWR Nutrients and HABs research for Region 5 States meeting. This presentation covers research that addresses nutrient pollution and  HABs forecasting. Where possible, we have highlighted nutrient reduction related to nonpoint sources including agriculture and septic systems.

Impact/Purpose

This is an overview presentation for the Region 5 states meeting on nutrients and harmful algal blooms. Current research presented relates to the national nutrient inventory, wetland restoration and demonstration projects, impacts of soil health practice on nutrient reduction, the ecological and economic benefits of nutrient reduction, practices to reduce nutrients from septic systems, and detecting and predicting HABs and cyanoHAB risk. An overall summary and future research directions are also presented.
