Supporting FAIR Chemical Assessments

On this page:

  • Overview
To make a dataset FAIR, it is imperative that data sets are internally consistent, nonredundant, unambiguous, and accessible. An example of making FAIR data is provided by the US EPA Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) Program’s inclusion of the Environmental Health Vocabulary (EHV) in the workflow for extraction of toxicological data from published reports being used in its human health assessment workflows that use a robust and transparent scientific process to determine effects of pollutants or other stressors on human health. These cutting edge human health risk assessment methods facilitate careful evaluation of scientific evidence, are presented as digital datasets harmonized using the EHV, are highly visual with interactive displays, facilitate collaboration, and are downloadable.

Impact/Purpose

This presentation demonstrates how application of the Environmental Health Vocabulary has made data supporting CPAD chemical assessments findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable.
