October is Children’s Health Month. As a vulnerable population, children are often more susceptible to the damaging effects of pollutants in their environments, which can lead to both short-term and long-term harm. Children in low-income communities, underserved by education, healthcare, and housing, are more at risk from dangers in areas where they live, learn, and play.
• Despite large underreporting, COPD is estimated by the WHO to be the 3rd leading cause of death worldwide (Lindberg 2021). • Prevalence for both men and women is highest in urbanized areas (Nritsos G et al 2018). • Prevalence is increasing, especially within the female population - affecting > 7 million women (Ntritsos G et al, 2018).•
