Cyanobacteria and Microcystin Risk in Lakes of the Conterminous US

PESD’s Amalia Handler was invited to present an update on project predicting cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms in lakes across the US to colleagues to the R10 Nutrient Program Meeting that will be attended by state and tribal partners in addition to EPA R10 staff. The team is using the National Lakes Assessment, the National Nutrient Inventory, and LakeCat for data on climate, watershed, and lake characteristics to identify which lakes are at higher risk for harmful cyanobacteria blooms. The goal of the presentation is to provide a research update to regional partners about this ongoing project.
