This hierarchical approach determines a population-level probability distribution for the chemical and species of interest while still providing exposure- and study-specific estimates to characterize the inherent variability that exists across numerous studies. Using classical pharmacokinetic models for internal dose predictions, a multi-level modeling approach provides the framework for propagating pharmacokinetic uncertainty and variability as we work towards a more probabilistic view of chemical risk assessments.
