On this page:

This public input session will be held to inform the Crisfield community about EPA’s research on nature-based solutions such as marsh restoration and living breakwaters as was shared with institutional partners on April 19, 2024, and to solicit input from the public on how use of the sites and benefits to tourism and recreation may be affected or enhanced.  This presentation shares why this research is being conducted, how it will help Crisfield, how the work fits into the context of other Crisfield resilience projects such as the FEMA flood mitigation plan, and provides the background of how nature-based strategies were proposed for Crisfield, how they work, and provides specific dimensions and locations of project options at Janes Island, Cedar Island, and the Lower Annemessex River.

Impact/Purpose

This presentation and public meeting will help the Crisfield community understand what are nature-based strategies, which types of strategies are proposed for Crisfield where based on literature review of success criteria given specific environmental conditions and feasibility analysis, and types of potential co-benefits these strategies can provide the community in ways that contribute towards community coastal resilience goals.
