The StreamCat and LakeCat Database, Web Tool, and R Package

On this page:

  • Overview
EPA's StreamCat and LakeCat datasets can be leveraged by state and tribal partners to facilitate their work to achieve their water quality goals. This training was organized by Region 5, at the request of several states. This introductory training will provide an overview of the data, including how they are generated and how they can be accessed by EPA partners. In addition, the training will discuss an example of how Oregon state is currently using StreamCat and two theoretical examples of how they can be used to support state and tribal efforts to manage their water resources effectively and efficiently.

Impact/Purpose

EPA's StreamCat and LakeCat datasets can greatly facilitate the acquisition of watershed data that are relevant to state and tribal partners' water quality objectives under the Clean Water Act. This training will introduce StreamCat and LakeCat to these partners within EPA's Region 5. Through this training, participants will understand how the data are generated and how to access them. These data can serve as a basis for numerous activities, such as TMDL development, watershed planning, and more. This presentation supports StRAP Subproduct SSWR.402.2.3.4: Expanding the use and usability of StreamCat and LakeCat watershed characterization for NARS and other EPA programs and partners.
