Red Lake Nation/Organon Collaboration: Framework for Adaptive Stream Monitoring & Management, Phase 1

  • Downloads
The Organon is an adaptive system for climate change planning. It is being used collaboratively with Tribal scientists of the Red Lake Nation of Minnesota to develop an adaptive strategic planning framework for stream monitoring and management programs. This interactive presentation lays out a strawman framework based on materials from and brainstorming sessions with the lead Tribal scientists. It consists of an automated report structure for an inventory of stream monitoring and management activities, assessed according to how various pieces fulfill key elements of resilience-based planning and action according to Organon principles. The webinar meeting will be used to make further progress on co-production of the framework to help pinpoint disconnects in Red Lake's activities within or among Organon steps and identify areas where their water resource programs can work together more efficiently and effectively to better utilize monitoring data to inform management.

Impact/Purpose

The Organon is an adaptive system for climate change planning. This interactive webinar addresses Phase 1 of a collaborative project with the Red Lake Nation of Minnesota to explore the potential for adaptive improvements to their stream monitoring and management programs using the Organon framework and principles. This includes developing a more holistic program where: 1) Red Lake’s water resource activities can work together more effectively to better utilize monitoring data to inform management; and 2) relevant climate change considerations are integrated for increased resilience. The approach, content and analysis are being co-produced with Red Lake Nation scientists in collaboration with EPA ORD and Region 5 scientists and program managers. Besides being useful to the Red Lake Nation, the results of the analysis--along with the automated template--will be shared broadly for use by other Region 5 Tribes, as well.
