Interim Report on Disaster Waste Management Case Study: 2020 Oregon Labor Day Wildfires

This presentation documents the progress of an EPA case study report, highlighting best practices and lessons learned in disaster waste and debris management operations in the 2020 Oregon Labor Day Wildfires. We provide results of qualitative data analysis, focusing on coded text relevant to our goal of identifying points of intervention and opportunities to support institutional capacity.

Impact/Purpose

This presentation documents the interim progress of an EPA case study report on disaster waste and debris management practices in the 2020 Oregon Labor Day Wildfires. This research contributes directly to Pillar 1 and 3 of the “Powering the Great American Comeback” Initiative and is core statutory activity under RCRA (USC Title 42 Ch 82 §6902 and §6981). We provide results of case study data analysis that identifies points of intervention in on-the-ground operations and opportunities to support institutional capacity. Sharing these findings with NGOs and other organizations that work on-the-ground benefits the American people by providing state and local actors with best practices and lessons learned regarding cooperative federalism and cross-agency partnership processes that can improve disaster waste response and recovery efforts.
