Chemical Assessments and Generative AI: A Data Quality Evaluation Use Case

On this page:

  • Overview
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) partnered with AWS Generative AI Innovation Center to use generative artificial intelligence (AI) to automate intelligent document processing for chemical assessment workflows. The session will highlight how EPA accelerates systematic review of research studies with text extraction, prompt engineering, and data quality evaluation with Amazon Textract and Amazon Bedrock. The presentation will also cover cost considerations to emphasize how technology advancements can provide substantial value while remaining cost-effective for government agencies.

Impact/Purpose

Chemical assessment workflows can be improved using artificial intelligence (AI) and advances to technologies by automating certain steps. With generative AI (GenAI) becoming more accessible, we investigate the application of GenAI to chemical assessment workflows. Specially, we try to address whether it is feasible to use for data quality evaluation in systematic review workflows.
