Introducing the EPA's National Nutrient Inventory

On this page:

  • Overview
The National Nutrient Inventory (NNI) provides estimates of major nutrient fluxes within the contiguous US. This presentation will highlight key features of the NNI, describe major insights into nutrient pollution trends, and introduce a suite of related water quality modeling projects in the Nutrient Inventory Portfolio. These slides will be part of the "Applying EPA's National Nutrient Inventory to quantify landscape nutrient inputs and interception to support state and local water quality objectives" presentation at the HABs, Hypoxia, and Nutrients Research Webinar Series on July 2nd.

Impact/Purpose

This work addresses issues surrounding nutrient pollution. This product presents a valuable dataset that assesses nitrogen and phosphorus inputs across the conterminous United States. It will be presented at the HABs, Hypoxia, and Nutrients Research Webinar Series this July to an audience of interested scientists, both within and external to the agency. This time series of detailed nutrient flux information is important for informing nutrient reduction strategies going forward and assists our regional and policy-focused partners in their efforts to reduce nutrient pollution.
