Tool allows a user to summarize one or more EnviroAtlas indicators for a user-defined point or area

Impact/Purpose

The Summarize My Area tool (formerly Gridded Map Tools) is a publicly available tool/widget available in the EnviroAtlas Interactive Mapping Application (https://enviroatlas.epa.gov/enviroatlas/interactivemap). This tool addresses a commonly requested enhancement to allow users to get more information about a custom area of interest. With the first version of this tool, users can get land cover statistics and visualize land cover change over time for any area of interest. Users can select from a list of available geometry including counties and congressional districts, drop a buffered point on a map, or draw a custom area. Future versions are intending to incorporate more spatial data (e.g., protected lands, riparian areas, population) and allow users to provide their own geometry with a spatial file (e.g., shapefile, geojson).
