Abstract
This review of the effects of photochemical oxidants on vegetation and the responses of vegetation to photochemical oxidants first discusses the general methodologies used in studies of air pollution effects to provide a basis for understanding the methods, approaches, and experimental designs used in the studies discussed in this chapter. Ozone and PAN are discussed separately, but the discussions of each will follow the same general outline, which includes (1) mode of action of the pollutant; (2) physical, biological, and chemical factors that alter plant response; and (3) primary emphasis on the effects of the individual pollutants on the response of plants to various concentrations and durations of exposure.Citation
